FRFA Fundraiser at Carrie's Closet

Today we had the fundraiser at the Carrie's Closet Warehouse, and many kitty supporters came out to say hello, do a little Christmas shopping and raise some cash for a great cause.  Prior to the event, I went by FRFA and took some photos and some video clips to share with you, so you can see who you are supporting.

The Feline Rescue Foundation of Alberta is a no kill organization that rescues cats. There are currently approximately 80 cats that live in the shelter, and also additional cats that live with foster families.  The cats have excellent care.  Daily, volunteers come into the shelter to feed the cats and clean the litter and tend to their needs.  The cats in the community all have their shots and veterinarians come into the shelter to tend to their issues.

Even though much of their services are subsidized, food costs money, rent and utilities cost money, and even though vet bills are subsidized, they cost money too. Volunteers are a necessity and funding is imperative.

Alberta has been hit by a recession and I know it is not always easy to donate cash.  If you are interested in helping FRFA, here is a Wish List of items that FRFA is always looking for.

I want to share with you some photos, and some fun videos we made at FRFA of a few of the cats prior to the warehouse opening today.  What an amazing day.

Feline Rescue Foundation of Alberta needs our help! Fundraiser at Carries Closet

Carrie and her cat, Pooh

 I

am the first to admit I am a crazy cat lady.

Truthfully I have a huge heart for all animals, but cats I seem to understand cats a little better and appreciate their antics and personalities.

I cannot think of too many times in my life where I didnt share my space with a cat. Our family always had them growing up, and as an adult, I almost always had a cat. I am the woman that my facebook friends always tag when they see a cat video, because they know I will watch it and appreciate it.

Imagine my delight when the Feline Rescue Foundation of Alberta moved in close proximity to my warehouse, where I operate my funky leggings online business Carrie's Closet.   When I would go to fulfill orders, I would always walk down to where they were, and make friends with the cats on the other side of the glass.  I would talk to the staff there through the screen door and hear their names and their stories (some very sad stories at times) of how some of their cats are permanent residents since they are a no kill organization, and some of the cats that call FRFA home are not adoptable, but are supported and loved by their kind volunteers.

I learned that all the cats are checked by vets to ensure that they are healthy and they are quarantined until they are cleared to interact with the other residents.  They vet bills some months, even though they are subsidized by vets are creeping close to 10,000 in a month depending on what they are encountering.  Rent is a few thousand a month, and then of course they need to keep the lights on, keep everyone fed and cared for.  So as you can see, even the very basic necessities are extremely expensive.

I offered to do a fundraiser to help them raise some money for the important care these cats receive.

We are opening up the warehouse from 10 - 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 20th and offering all customers 10% off that come shopping that day.  I am going to donate 20% of the gross sales that day to FRFA.  In addition, for those of you who are not from the Calgary area, or who would prefer to shop online, I will run a sale for two days online at CarriesCloset.ca of 10% off site wide, using the discount code FRFA10 (all caps with a one zero on the end) for both Saturday, December 19 - 20 (two days) and same, 20% of all sales will go directly to FRFA.

Discount code for customer 10% off: FRFA10 (ALL  CAPS)

Donation to FRFA: 20%

Date of online sale:  December 19-20 (48 hours)

Or come to the warehouse on Sunday, December 20th from 10 - 2 p.m. and all sales that day will also qualify for the 10% off, plus a 20% donation to FRFA.  Address is 1257 - 38 Avenue NE, #Calgary

HOW ELSE YOU CAN HELP

Please check out the website link above for items that you could donate to help them. My warehouse is open every Saturday until Christmas.  If you would like to donate any canned cat food or other items on their list, I would be happy to ensure that they get them in a timely manner.

Free Leggings at the Canadian Business Chicks Holiday Networking Event

Hello everyone!

Carrie's Closet is a proud member of Canadian Business Chicks.  Last night, there was a Holiday Networking Social at the Gerry Thomas Art Gallery in Calgary, Alberta where a room full of entrepreneurs shook hands, kissed babies and listened to some amazing keynote speakers.

Carrie's Closet donated some leggings to one lucky winner and we are excited to show you what we donated!  The winner of course has the option to exchange for their choice of style and size in the same price category.  However, this is what we did for the lucky lady who won this $64 value in leggings.  Its always fun to give leggings away!

Ecommerce Holiday Shipping Guide 2015 for Carries Closet

Shopping by eCommerce into December can be tricky for both the gift giver and the online retailer.

Its important that when choosing ecommerce for holiday shopping, that we are both taking a chance on the item arriving on time.

Based on the shipping times provided by both Canada Post and United States Postal Service (I use both services due to our proximity to the US border), please add a comfortable buffer onto both dates when ordering gifts from us this holiday season.

Please bear in mind I fulfill within 24 hours.  To be more specific on what that means.... any orders that come in today, get packed tomorrow, so that I can make one trip to my warehouse and do all the packing at the same time.

Canada Post Holiday Schedule

XpressPost Dec 21 Dec 19 Dec 18
Priority Dec 22 Dec 22 Dec 22

United States Postal Service for US and International Deliveries

First class mail in the united states, I need your order by NOON on December 18, 2015 by Christmas Delivery.

In the United States, mail will NOT be delivered on Christmas Eve

For international Mail, truly it is a risk in December.  First class International can take 3 - 6 weeks, and tracking is not always seen up to our final destination, as many countries outsource their mail for parcel delivery. Please consider gift cards for Boxing Day shopping online for International destinations for purchases in December to avoid disappointment.

Other Options:

For local people, I will have the warehouse open.  Check Where to Find Us to see us in person.

For those who are concerned, consider our gift card option and let your loved one can pick out their own product during our Boxing Week Sales.  They are delivered to you immediatedly, electronically, and you can print them out, or copy and paste the code into another format.  They never expire and do not have to be used all at once.

Fulfillment and Mail Pickup

Canada Post is open weeknights in my neighborhood until 9 p.m. and I fulfill all Friday evening and Saturday orders on Sunday.

USPS: Delivery of packages to the United States Postal Service is every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  These items are picked up every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  So please... PLEASE be as proactive as you can.  We will work with you to get your packages packed and out the door, but we are both viewing the SAME tracking number, so I cannot get it there any faster.

I hope this gives you the information you need to make an informed decision about cutoff times.
